Building a higher ed labor movement wall-to-wall and coast-to-coast.
Higher Education Labor United (HELU) is a national organization founded in 2021 to unite workers throughout U.S. higher education. HELU brings together unions that represent staff, student workers, adjunct, contingent, and tenured faculty, postdocs, university health system workers, and others. We come together to create and pursue a unified vision for higher education and to add our strength to a reinvigorated U.S. labor movement. Unions and organizations representing over 225,000 higher ed and allied workers across the U.S. have joined HELU as member organizations.
2025: Higher Education is a Battleground
From campuses to Capitol Hill, higher ed workers are taking action. Join us as we demand funding for science, protections for research, and a future where knowledge serves the people—not corporate greed.
Update March 14, 2025: Columbia University has expelled President Grant Miner of Student Workers of Columbia (SWC-UAW 2710) for participation in Palestine solidarity activism. Columbia announced Miner’s expulsion less than 24 hours before SWC-UAW 2710’s first bargaining session with Columbia. This all comes in addition to the recent DHS/ICE abduction of Mahmoud Khalil from Columbia University housing. Join us as we plan the fight back.

Show Solidarity
Take action today and show solidarity with higher ed workers across the nation.
