Building a higher ed labor movement wall-to-wall and coast-to-coast.
Higher Education Labor United (HELU) is a national organization founded in 2021 to unite workers throughout U.S. higher education. HELU brings together unions that represent staff, student workers, adjunct, contingent, and tenured faculty, postdocs, university health system workers, and others. We come together to create and pursue a unified vision for higher education and to add our strength to a reinvigorated U.S. labor movement. Unions and organizations representing over 225,000 higher ed and allied workers across the U.S. have joined HELU as member organizations.
Higher Education Federal Policy Agenda
To strengthen democracy and grow our economy, higher education must function as a public good.
But those in power have forced our higher ed institutions to rely on a failing business model of ever-increasing tuition and exploitative labor practices, undermining their public mission and fueling corporate power.
In every state, our community colleges, technical schools, comprehensive colleges and universities, health science centers, and research institutions are in crisis, struggling to educate, innovate, and care for millions of Americans.
We are calling for an affirmative policy agenda for higher education — one that reclaims it as a universal right and collective investment, not a private commodity.

Show Solidarity
Take action today and show solidarity with higher ed workers across the nation.
