Collective Bargaining Map

This is a map of higher education union contracts, covering around 250,000 workers, that we know are being negotiated this year (2022). By coordinating our organizing, we can build even more campus worker power than we already have to structurally change campus working conditions. This map is a first attempt at visualizing where campus workers are already mobilizing this year, to encourage unions to build or deepen relationships with each other through coordinated issues, policies, and actions. We are eager to build this map to be as useful as possible to facilitate nationally coordinated organizing. Ideally, in the future we will also digitally map every public-facing higher education union, recognized or not, with contract or not. Each icon represents a union’s bargaining unit and includes the union’s name, website, and contract (if possible). Some contracts have already been ratified and many are first contract campaigns (in that case the “Contract” link for that icon will not take you anywhere, ex. United Grad Workers of the University of New Mexico). You may zoom in or out to see distinct tabs/unions on specific campuses. In addition, you may also turn on tabs for economically important and/or allied unions outside of higher ed who have contract negotiations this year (including the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, the Denver Classroom Teachers Association, United Teachers Los Angeles, and the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York, etc.). Information was compiled by campus worker organizers drawing on past research compiled here and contract specific data here and will be updated periodically. Please contact us here with any questions, corrections, complaints, or praises of the map.
