Building a higher ed labor movement wall-to-wall and coast-to-coast.
Higher Education Labor United (HELU) is a national organization founded in 2021 to unite workers throughout U.S. higher education. HELU brings together unions that represent staff, student workers, adjunct, contingent, and tenured faculty, postdocs, university health system workers, and others. We come together to create and pursue a unified vision for higher education and to add our strength to a reinvigorated U.S. labor movement. Unions and organizations representing over 225,000 higher ed and allied workers across the U.S. have joined HELU as member organizations.

Fund Education,
Not War and Deportation
Higher education workers need to be paid living wages and treated with respect. Students need affordable colleges and universities, where they can study without going deep into debt. Communities need institutions that give back rather than exploit. The current U.S. administration keeps throwing money at immoral programs like deportation and war, while education faces cuts and we’re all asked to do more with less. Our work makes colleges and universities run. On May Day, we will come together with our students and communities to show the power of higher education, united.
We can take down ICE
by refusing to cooperate
Our schools contract with companies that help ICE deport our neighbors. We have the power to get hundreds of colleges to drop their contracts with ICE’s key enablers – Enterprise, Target, Hilton, Flock, and ICE Air Carriers. Learn more and take action at the Schools Drop ICE website.

Northeast Regional Bargaining & the Amherst Compact
It is time for a Northeast regional bargaining strategy to leverage the power of workers across job categories and institutions to raise the standards of work, learning, research, care, and the integrity of educational programs in our higher ed and academic medical systems.
Show Solidarity
Take action today and show solidarity with higher ed workers across the nation.
