At the University of Alabama (and across the country), adjunct faculty worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic, many teaching the same course loads as full-time instructors, but without university-sponsored health insurance. UA graduate workers are also a critical part of the teaching work force and face tremendous barriers to accessing care, especially mental healthcare, due to the limitations of the university’s student health plan.
