University of Oregon Student Workers (UOSW) began a card-signing drive for a wall-to-wall student worker union in October 2022. In multiple instances since then, managers, supervisors, and other representatives of the University of Oregon have discouraged and deterred union organizing in violation of the Oregon Public Employee Collective Bargaining Act.
UOSW calls on the university to stop any and all union busting behavior, and to allow a free and fair card-check election to occur. The University’s public stance is that it is “neutral” on unionization; its behavior should reflect that stance.
The UO administration needs to ensure that student workers have a fair union election process, free from interference by administration, management, and supervisors. They need to end discriminatory enforcement of policies regarding unionization, and ensure that supervisors and managers do not violate state labor law.
