Higher Education Labor United (HELU) urgently seeks temporary staff through the beginning of July 2024 for the position of Convention Coordinator.
The Convention Coordinator serves as the lead for the planning and execution of HELU’s founding convention this spring, including all social organizational infrastructure (physical logistics and social, i.e., across HELU member and prospective member unions and organizations).
This position is for 20 – 30 hours per week across these capacities. The rate of pay is $44.76 per hour.
This temporary position will end on July 15, 2024. The possibility of contract extension or renewal will depend on financial capacity and staffing needs. Should HELU funding continue to grow, the hired candidate may be considered for a full-time Executive Director position.
We seek candidates who can manage the following responsibilities:
- Ensures the founding convention is planned and executed across all stages, including:
- confirming event logistics including speakers;
- coordinating and executing goals/timelines, refining the vision platform as needed);
- Coordinates with other HELU staff and organizers for the convention planning and execution;
- Manages the HELU development strategy, including setting a course for the ways in which HELU grows organizationally and financially;
- Liaises with HELU member organizations, including:
- Determining who delegates are and communication with them;
- Securing financial and in-kind contributions towards the convention;
- Making sure all member orgs are included in democratic processes surrounding the convention;
- Answers questions and facilitates conversations about convention planning, structure, agenda, etc.
- Schedules/facilitates note taking during meetings.
- Interfaces with other committees (budget, media, outreach, etc.) about convention needs and expectations from those committees.
Flexibility and familiarity with labor and higher ed required. An ideal candidate will have at least three (3)+ years working in higher ed labor.
