From our colleagues at the Illinois Nursing Association:
The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) is one of Chicago’s most essential safety net hospitals. Its nurses have sacrificed their health and their family time to save lives, prevent COVID spread and treat Chicago’s most vulnerable patient community over the past few years. Over that same time they have experienced understaffing, workplace violence and a loss in purchasing power thanks to the record inflation of the past few years.
After a weeklong strike after their contract expired in August, nurses organized with the Illinois Nursing Association (INA-UIH) and management continue to be far apart on issues like safety for nurses and patients, staffing ratios that allow for high quality care conditions and wages that compete with nearby hospitals.
Nurses voted 88% to authorize their bargaining team to call an indefinite strike late last month and a strike date has now been set for Wednesday, November 13th.
Please help these nurses stay out one day longer than the boss by donating to the UIH Union Nurse Strike Fund! All funds will go toward supporting the basic needs of nurses on strike.
