This “coast to coast” HELU panel will feature a range of institutional and strategic viewpoints about the obstacles to unity and solidarity that faculty face and how we can overcome them. Speakers represent the wide range of contingent faculty positions today—from part-time and full-time lecturers, to adjuncts, continuing appointment NTTs, and precarious pre-tenure TT faculty, as well as diverse experiences of organizing for change. In the face of the stark inequity, exploitation, precarity, and frequent marginalization facing contingent faculty, as well as the growing threats to ALL those who work or study in higher ed, we seek to deepen the discussion about how hierarchical job structures and cultures harm the common good. After the panel there will be open discussion and then a 30-minute break-out session to allow attendees to join small group discussion, followed by a synthesis session to bring together the insights and proposals that emerge. All are welcome to attend!
