From our colleagues at UCW Kentucky:
The University of Louisville (UofL) has implemented a reduction in force (RIF), laying off more than a dozen staff workers with little to no warning. These decisions have been made with little transparency. So far, six staff members in Arts & Sciences have been informed that they will lose their jobs at the end of the month, and additional staff across the university have also received notice.
These primarily include staff of long tenure, staff of color, and LGBQT+ staff. Faculty and staff senates were excluded from the decision-making process; department chairs were told about the reductions but not consulted. The inhumane way in which these cuts were made have made it difficult for affected workers to cover housing costs, afford food, and meet their basic daily needs. Despite concerns voiced by members of UCW, RIF’d workers have not been granted support to help sustain them in their transition in this broken economy.
If you have the means to do so, UCW Kentucky is asking folks to provide awareness and financial support to affected workers by donating to their mutual aid fund and spreading their message. All collected funds will go to RIF’d and laid-off workers.
