The Graduate Student Action Network (@GradAction on Twitter), a group of grad student leaders at 50+ universities in 30 states, is organizing a Day of Student Action for Bodily Autonomy on Oct 6, 2022. Graduate, undergrad, medical, and law students will leave their classrooms and labs, gathering together on campus to publicly demand federal laws protecting our rights to safe, legal, and accessible abortion; gender-affirming care; free and accessible contraception; and mandatory sex education.
Students will also make demands of their universities through student petitions asking for things like free pregnancy tests for regular at-home testing, Plan B vending machines, better support for student parents (guaranteed parental leave and childcare subsidies), and more.
Finally, student speakers and community members will educate the student body on how to safely access abortion; how to practice safe, consensual sex; how to practice good digital hygiene for legal safety; how to get registered to vote; what measures on the Nov ballot are relevant to issues of bodily autonomy in their state; and why access to abortion is essential for diversity and equity in higher education and the workplace.
