Support for Florida faculty in fight to defend tenure

Our siblings in United Faculty of Florida are asking higher ed workers around the country to lend support as Florida faculty fight back against efforts to eliminate tenure. If the right-wing agenda to eliminate tenure in Florida succeeds, it will set us all back by threatening the academic and intellectual freedoms and erode job security that all higher ed workers need. This fight is critically important to the future of public higher ed.

Take action – follow these steps to send feedback to the Florida Board of Governors – DEADLINE EXTENDED TO DEC. 9, 2022:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the policy by reading it here.
  2. Review UFF analysis and talking points to assist you in formulating your comments.
  3. Post your comment to the Board of Governors website. Scroll down to “Chapter 10: Miscellaneous Provisions,” then select the “Submit a Comment” link in the “Post-Tenure Faculty Review” box. If you don’t see the “Submit” box, you may need to zoom out in your browser.
  4. Ask five of your colleagues, friends, family members, and community allies to also leave public comment on or to otherwise advocate against the regulation.

In addition to submitting testimony to the Florida Board of Governors opposing its disastrous proposal to end tenure in the state, please sign this petition created by UFF.

From UFF President Andrew Gothard: “Right now, the Florida Board of Governors is considering a regulation that will virtually eliminate tenure in Florida’s university system. You can support our fight by signing this petition and sharing it widely among your family, friends, colleagues, and community allies. UFF will present this petition and the full list of signatures directly to the Board of Governors as part of our ongoing collective actions to stop this regulation in its tracks. Please sign and stand in solidarity with us today!”

In this moment of heightened higher ed worker militancy and intensified attacks on organized higher ed workers, it is critical that we stand together for academic and intellectual freedom and the job security that all higher ed workers deserve.
