The Florida Board of Governors has suspended Florida Atlantic University’s presidential search, citing dubious claims about violations of Sunshine Laws. United Faculty of Florida’s belief is that this meddling in the FAU search process is motivated by pure partisanship, as the short list of candidates was composed of three highly qualified higher education professionals, instead of a singular politician hand-selected by Gov. DeSantis. You can read UFF’s press release here, which calls on Chancellor Rodrigues to back off or resign from his position.
Please take action now to stand in solidarity with Florida Atlantic faculty, students, and staff as part of United Faculty of Florida’s continued efforts to set new standards for transparency and accountability in college and university presidential searches, despite the restrictions of Florida law. In less than 15 minutes, you can use the information in this link to contact the Florida Board of Governors and tell them to stop meddling in the FAU search process.
Free and fair presidential searches are good for the entire higher education community, regardless of politics. Please take action today and help ensure a better future for all of Florida’s colleges and universities!
