HELU Elections Coming Up November 20, 2025

Helena Worthen, Co-Chair, Media/Comms, National Writers Union

A new HELU Steering Committee will be seated in January 2026 for a two-year term. Elections for these positions will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

Why run for these positions? Things are moving fast. Run because you are ready to join others and put some energy into pushing our wall-to-wall and coast-to-coast organizing project up the mountain. We want multiple candidates for each position. We will arrange zoom events where candidates can talk to Delegates and each other.

Here is information you can use to help you decide to run:

1. You must be a delegate to HELU from your local union or labor organization.

2.  You must self-nominate.  A link for this purpose will be placed in the chat box of the August 18 GA and added to the website and HELU newsletter.

3.  Check to make sure that your local union or labor organization is paid up with its Solidarity Pledges. The deadline for being paid up is 5:00 pm EST, two weeks before the close of nominations.

4.  Read the constitution. It is on the HELU website. Note that at the August 18 General Assembly, we will be voting on amendments that will, if they pass, add positions to the Steering Committee.

5.  Put all these dates in your calendar.

6.  Think. Discuss. Estimate your time commitments for the next two years. Think some more.

HELU is simply the cutting edge of labor-focused organizing in higher education, and labor is the only thing that actually has the power to resist the sleaze and re-shape the public good we know as higher education. As a Delegate, you can be proud of being part of this movement. Running for SC is taking one further step into the action.
