Upcoming COCAL Conference: August 4-7, 2022

COCAL XIV, QUERÉTARO 2022 (Coalition of Contingent Academic Labor)
ACADEMIC LABOR AND INTER-GENERATIONAL DIALOGUE IN THE AMERICAN CONTINENT IN THE POST-COVID ERA

  • Registration link will be available in a few weeks.
  • Note: The logo for COCAL XIV shows 2020 because the conference was postponed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Registration fee: $200 US dollars (Includes a book about COCAL, two lunches and one dinner, materials, coffee service, expenses for auditoriums and resources, hotel-university-historic center-hotel transportation and translation in Spanish, English, and French)
  • Dates: August 5-7 and August 4 for the wine route visit in the region that is optional and with an additional cost (Freixenet Cellars-Peña de Bernal-Tequisquiapan)
  • Location: Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ) in the city of Querétaro, Querétaro, Mexico (with the headquarters of the Union of Academics of the UAQ-SUPAUAQ)
  • Flights and ground transportation: there are flights to Queretaro airport from several cities in the United States and Canada, and even more to the airport in Mexico City, with several bus lines to the city of Querétaro
  • Lodging: The main hotel, Las Camelinas, is perfect for its prices, comfort, and proximity to the university, but there is also the Holiday Inn and a great variety of hotels in the historic center of Querétaro.

Thursday, August 4: Tour of the Wineries and Cellars of Freixenet-Peña de Bernal-Tequisquiapan wine country 
(OPTIONAL, WITH ADDITIONAL COST)
9:00 am – Leave for wineries and cellars of Freixenet
11:00-12:30 Guided visit to wineries and cellars of Freixenet
12:30 Leave for Peña de Bernal (mountain)
13:00-16:00 Visit to the town of Peña de Bernal (lunch on your own)
16:00 Leave for Tequisquiapan
16:30-18:30 Visit to the town of Tequisquiapan (dinner on your own)
18:30 Leave for Querétaro city
20:00 Arrival at the hotel in Querétaro
20:00-22:00 Registration and delivery of COCAL conference materials at hotel

Friday, August 5 (Facilities of SUPAUAQ, Auditorium of Aula Forense in UAQ central campus and Philosophy School)

7:15-8:00 am – Press conference with Advisory Committee, Committee of SUPAUAQ and COCAL-Mexico coordinators at facilities of SUPAUAQ
7:30 am – Leave by bus from the main hotel to UAQ central campus
8:00-8:30 –  Registration and delivery of conference materials at the Law School courtyard
8:15-9:45 –  Documentary screening of Gerry Potter’s film: In Search of Professor Precarius in Auditorium of Aula Forense
10:00-11:45 – Official inauguration in Auditorium of Aula Forense
12:00-13:30  – Plenary session No. 1 at the auditorium of Aula Forense
13:45 Leave by bus for Philosophy School
14:3016:00 Lunch with music at Patio Barroco of the Philosophy School
16:15-18:15 Simultaneous workshops in the auditorium and postgraduate rooms of Philosophy School
18:30-19:30 Callejoneada, a promenade of the historic downtown Querétaro
19:30-21:30 Visit to downtown of Querétaro (dinner on your own)
 21:30 –  Leave for hotel
 22:00 –  Arrive at the main hotel

Saturday, August 6 (UAQ Business Center and Hotel Plaza Las Camelinas)

8:00 am –  Leave by bus for UAQ Business Center
9:00-10:30 – Presentation of our book about COCAL and the book by Helena Worthen and Joe Berry, “Power Despite Precarity”.
10:45-12:15 – Plenary session No. 2
12:15- 13:00 – Presentation of Sylvain Marois and Ricado Peñafiel proposal
13:00-14:30 – Lunch with music
14:30-16:00  – Plenary session No. 3
16:15-18:00  – Final plenary session
18:00 – Leave for hotel
19:30-24:00 – Gala Dinner/Dance (Ecala room of Hotel Plaza Camelinas or another salon)

Sunday, August 7 (Facilities of SUPAUAQ)

8:30-10:00 am – Evaluation meeting with Advisory Committee, SUPAUAQ Committee, and COCAL-Mexico coordinators
