International Campus Worker Protections (ICWP) Campaign
2025
We are asking you to:
1) Have your union or organization endorse the National Letter of finalized COLLECTIVE DEMANDS. If it’s helpful, you can use this Example Resolution for your union/org to vote on. When your union/org is ready, sign the National Letter here. Our goal is to have at least 50 endorsements by Labor Day week (September 1st), when HELU will officially launch this National Letter via social media and outreach actions. By the culmination of our campaign on Tuesday October 21st 2025, our goal is to have union endorsements from at least 150 campuses nationwide.
By signing the National Letter, your union is also pledging to deliver a Campus version of the letter to your campus administrators on or before Oct 21st 2025 (see #2 below). National organizations (such as the National Writers Union) that are not located on a specific campus (and do not have “campus administrators”) can also sign the National Letter. If you have any questions, please reach out to HELU Operations Director Tracy Berger at tracy@higheredlaborunited.org.
2) Prepare and deliver a Campus version of the National Letter to your campus administrators on or before Tuesday October 21st 2025 as part of our nationwide coordination. Your union can also plan and host a high-profile action/event for the delivery day of your Campus letter, with local media coverage for extra fire. Our goal is that administrators at 150 campuses receive a Campus version of the letter, co-signed and co-delivered by all unions at that campus.
3) Ask other unions and organizations on your campus to endorse the National Letter and to co-sign your Campus version. Unions and orgs can include undergrad workers, graduate workers, faculty, staff, food services, custodial, trades, and any other worker unions and organizations on your campus. Remember, the goal is for all of the unions at your campus to co-sign your Campus letter.
4) Help us keep track of the conversations you’re having by updating the Outreach Tracker spreadsheet, and add more unions to the list!
5) Help us with outreach: On the Tracker spreadsheet, sign up to contact 5 unions and ask them to get involved in this campaign. Prioritize large, well-established unions that are likely to agree readily. Have a 1-on-1 with their leaders, and track their progress toward the National Letter endorsement and and campus letter delivery on the Tracker. Here are all the materials you need to make these asks, including email templates and a conversation guide.
6) Join our Planning Group to help organize this campaign! We meet weekly via Zoom on Thursdays, usually at 2:00 pm ET.
7) Attend our check-in Zoom meetings to connect and share your progress on #1-5 above.
