Panelists will discuss the events of November 2022, when 48,000 graduate workers, postdocs, and academic researchers went on strike at the University of California. This was the largest strike to-date in higher education. While the outcomes of the strike are well-documented, less is known about the three-year contract campaign that preceded it. On January 22nd, veterans of the campaign will join archivists from the Reuther Library to discuss the program, the role of archives in labor organizing, and the future of higher ed. Register here. Panelists:
- Caroline Luce, UCLA, Institute for Research on Labor and Employment
- Monica Geraffo, UAW-UCLA strike archivist
- Gavin Strassel, UAW archivist, Reuther Library
- Heeba Hartit, GSR UC Labor Center
