Late on the afternoon of Friday, February 9, 2024, our colleagues at AFT New Mexico learned that members of the NM Senate Finance Committee plan to cut their previous compensation recommendation for educational employees, both in K-12 and higher ed. The previously recommended budget included approximately a 4% raise. Members of the Senate Finance Committee are considering cutting their own recommendation down to a flat 3% raise for all educational employees.
This is unacceptable, and frankly disrespectful to the thousands of hardworking educators at each step of the New Mexico public education system.
