Regional Organizing: Report from Michigan

From the HELU Michigan Coalition:

HELU has been quietly engaged in regional organizing for the past year. There are regional organizing projects going on in the Northeast, around the Philadelphia area, in the Pacific Northwest and in New Mexico, among others. The work of these projects is specific to their region. This is a report from the HELU Michigan Coalition.

The HELU Michigan Coalition is partnering with Labor@Wayne for a 4-panel workshop on Understanding Public Budgets on April 30th. This event will break down the basics of strategic research, FOIA, and gathering critical financial data from public institutions followed by a presentation from the Private Equity Stakeholder Project to illuminate where private investments are going from public institutions. Next, join Kevin de Linder and Chris Newfield for a discussion on AI and public institutions. Finally, panelists Matt Seybold, Softa Aptekar, Stephen Hastings, and Kelly Grotke on a discussion around public institution budget information for bargaining.

The event will be in-person for a crowd of 40 and broadcast online (link to come). With changes to national labor boards, strategic research is more important not than ever at the bargaining table.
