On September 8, 2026, Tufts library staff made the brave decision to publicly announce their union with SEIU Local 888.
The Tufts Library staff maintain Tufts’ collections, support student and faculty research, and coordinate invaluable programs and services for campus life. Tufts University could not run without these essential workers. We, the community members signed below, stand in solidarity with the Tufts library workers as they fight for their union.
With this petition, we demand that President Kumar and Tufts leadership recognize the union and immediately begin contract negotiations in good faith. We ask Tufts administration to work together with the union to produce a fair contract that meets workers’ demands for dignity, respect, and voice on the job.
