From our colleagues at UAW Higher Education:
TAKE ACTION: Submit a comment opposing the Trump administration’s latest attacks on international scholars. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has proposed a new fee for F-1 student visa holders seeking employment authorization through the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, covering pre-completion OPT, post-completion OPT, and the STEM OPT extension. The proposal would require university F-1 sponsors to pay a $70,000 fee before authorizing OPT, and a $30,000 renewal fee. Comments are due by November 9, 2026 at midnight ET.
Take a few minutes to submit a public comment—tell DHS how this discriminatory and xenophobic rule change would harm your studies and/or research and hurt scientific advances in the U.S. and call for it to be rescinded. Your comment will include your name but all other details will remain confidential.
