HELU Founding Convention

May 17-19, 2024

Location

The in-person portions of HELU’s founding convention will be hosted at the Labor Education Center (LEC) at Rutgers University. While we encourage participation in-person whenever possible, we will also have online access via Zoom. If you have questions or access needs, please contact us at info@higheredlaborunited.org.

Lodging

We have a block of rooms at the Rutgers University Inn and Conference Center, which is now fully booked.

We don’t have additional rooms blocked, but here are some other nearby union hotels:

Parking

At the LEC

You will need to register for a campus parking permit for the LEC. Register your vehicle here for special event parking permission in Lots 96, 96A & 76. Confirmation will be sent to the email address you provide. If you have any problems registering, please send an email to dotshelp@rutgers.edu. Until this process is completed their vehicles are not registered and they may receive a citation. Special Event parking does not include metered parking or allow free parking to Faculty, Staff, or Students. Rutgers affiliated Faculty, Staff, and Students must have a Rutgers parking permit (Semester, Daily, or Event) and park accordingly.  

At the Rutgers Inn

Complimentary parking is provided for overnight travelers in LOT 82. The front desk will register guest vehicle information electronically upon check in. You will need your license plate information upon check in. Please be sure to bring that information so you can avoid having to go back out to your car. Rutgers University students and staff must check their issued permit for parking restrictions.

Traveling by train

New Jersey Transit 
New Jersey Transit’s Northeast Corridor Line provides New Brunswick with both local and express service between Penn Station, New York; and Newark and Trenton, New Jersey.

Amtrak
Amtrak provides limited direct service to New Brunswick, however, connections can easily be made via New Jersey Transit trains to principal Amtrak stations at MetroPark, New York, and Trenton.

Trains will bring you into downtown New Brunswick. You can take a cab to Rutgers University Inn and Conference Center. There are plenty of taxis at the exit of the train.

Traveling by bus

Getting Around Campus

Guests may use Rutgers’ Campus Bus to travel downtown or to other points on the New Brunswick/Piscataway campuses. The university bus system is complimentary to all riders.

The closest bus stop to the Rutgers Inn is a short walk away, located at Gibbons Hall on Ryders Lane. Go to the far end of our parking to the right of the Inn’s entrance, then head to the right on the footpath, which will lead down towards Gibbons Circle, the bus stop is in front of Gibbons Hall.

The Labor Education Center is located a short walk from the Rutgers Inn and can also be reached on the EE or F bus routes at the Henderson stop (two stops before the Gibbons Hall stop for the Rutgers Inn).
